What is Lokpal Bill? History of Lokpal Bill

The first Lokpal Bill was passed in the 4th Lok Sabha in 1969 but could not get through in Rajya Sabha, subsequently, Lokpal bills were introduced in 1971, 1977, 1985, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and in 2008, yet they were never passed and its pending. The Lokpal Bill provides for filing complaints of corruption against the prime minister, other ministers, and MPs with the ombudsman. The Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) while recommending the constitution of Lokpal was convinced that such an institution was justified not only for removing the sense of injustice from the minds of adversely affected citizens but also necessary to instill public confidence in the efficiency of administrative machinery.

Following this, the Lokpal Bill was for the first time presented during the fourth Lok Sabha in 1968, and was passed there in 1969. However, while it was pending in the Rajya Sabha, the Lok Sabha was dissolved, resulting the first death of the bill. The bill was revived in 1971, 1977, 1985, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and most recently in 2008. Each time, after the bill was introduced to the house, it was referred to some committee for improvements -- a joint committee of parliament, or a departmental standing committee of the Home Ministry -- and before the government could take a final stand on the issue the house was dissolved.

Jan Lokpal Bill

Several flaws have been sited in the recent draft of the Lokpal Bill. Meanwhile the activists of India Against Corruption (IAC) have prepared a draft for the bill called Jan Lokpal Bill. The bill has been drafted by Shanti Bhushan, former IPS Kiran Bedi, Justice N. Santosh Hegde, renowned advocate Prashant Bhushan, former chief election commissioner J. M. Lyngdoh in consultation with the leaders of the India Against Corruption movement and the civil society.

The bill proposes institution of the office of Lokpal (Ombudsman) at center and Lok Ayukta at state level. Jan Lokpal Bill is designed to create an effective anti-corruption and grievance redressal systems at centre and to assure that effective deterrent is created against corruption and to provide effective protection to whistleblowers

Anna Hazare started his “Fast until Death” at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, stating “I will fast until Jan Lokpal Bill is passed” from 5 April 2011

Anna Hazare received the Padmashri award by the Government of India in 1990 and the Padmabhushan award in 1992. He received the Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra award by government of India on November 19, 1986 from the hands of Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. In 1989, he recived the Krishi Bhushana award by the Government of Maharashtra. On April 15, 2008, Kisan Baburao Hazare received the World Bank’s 2008 Jit Gill Memorial Award for Outstanding Public Service: “Hazare created a thriving model village in Ralegan Siddhi, in the impoverished Ahmednagar region of Maharashtra state, and championed the right to information and the fight against corruption.”

If you are using Yahoo Email Address at eUttaranchal Matrimonial, we have a bad news for you!

Since a couple of days, we have noticed that Yahoo is delaying receiving emails sent through our server. The delay time has considerably increased to over 24 hrs now!

What does this mean?

This means that when you express interest or send a message to any member (having Yahoo email address) at eUttaranchal Matrimonial, those mails may be delivered after 24 hrs or even may be lost/rejected by Yahoo.

How does it affect eUttaranchal Matrimonial Members?

You may NOT recieve the alert email we send to a member when another member expresses interest on your profile or sends you a message. You may get a message from eUttaranchal Matrimonial saying “Validate your Email” and you will never receive the validation email from us!

What is the solution?

While we liaison  with Yahoo to fix up the issue from their end, we recommend eUttaranchal Members to CHANGE their email address to any other email like Gmail or Rediff.

To update your email address with eUttaranchal Matrimonial, please follow these steps:

a. Login in eUttaranchal Matrimonial

b. Click on “My Contact Details” link in the left navigation

c. Remove your yahoo email address and enter a new email address against “Email” field

d. Click on “Update” button

e. Once you update your email, you will be asked to verify your email. Click on “Validate My Email” link next to your email address on the same page. Follow the simple steps and you are done!

eUttaranchal website gets a new facelit to improve user experience browsing throught the website. We tried to make use of optimum space available on the user screen. While we changed the navigation style, the core design element remained the same to give the same old feel.

The facelit was also necessary to incorporate loads of information that we will be putting on to the website in the next six months. We are just gearing up for that.

Uttarakhand lives in the Villages. More than 75% of Uttarakhand’s population consist of rural population. Though the conditions of villages have improved a bit in past years, there is yet a lot to change and transform.

Our database contains demographics of 15828 villages/towns from Uttarakhand. The census data has been taken from India Census 2001 and the other data is user generated.

We will also gather village data from the general public and eUttaranchal users in particular to contribute to the village database and make it information rich.
